V. Survey Summary
- 1 72.5% were 36 years of age or older.
- 2 65.1% lived or worked in the City of Mound for a minimum of ten years.
- 3 76.3% reported they have never been the victim of any type of crime in the City of Mound.
- 4 87.6% have never witnessed a violent crime in the city.
- 5 72.3% have never witnessed a non-violent crime like theft or damage to property in the City of Mound.
- 6 88.4% have had very little contact with the Mound Police Department, 43.9% indicated never and 44.5% indicated three or less contacts.
- 7 59.4% agree or strongly agree with the statement, “Illegal drug use in Mound is a problem”.
- 8 54.2% agree or strongly agree with the statement, “Alcohol use among juveniles is a problem in Mound”.
- 9 30.5% agree or strongly agree with the statement, “Traffic violations are a problem in Mound”. 35.3% reported a neutral position on the question.
- 10 41.4% agreed or strongly agreed that nuisance violations such as exterior storage, junk vehicles and noxious weeds were a problem in Mound.
- 11 75.6% feel safe walking in their neighborhood.
- 12 15.9% are more afraid of crime then they have ever been.
- 1 79.8% of the people surveyed have some interested in participating in a crime prevention program.
- 2 70.2% agree or strongly agree with the statement, “Overall, I’m satisfied with the police service in Mound”.
- 3 50.3% believe Mound Police Officers are courteous and well mannered.

In addition, we would like to thank Mound Police Intern, Tamara Miller, who compiled and configured all of the data from this survey. Finally, we would like to thank all of the Mound residents and business owners who are participated in the survey for your efforts and candid responses.
Conclusion The purpose of this survey was to gather information so that we could better understand the concerns, views, and needs of the citizens and business owners of Mound. The results of the survey will be used by the police department during strategic planning training in 2006 for the following purposes:
- 1. Train officers on customer service, expectations, and perceptions of the community, and
- 2. Determine what type of police programming, enforcement, and services best meets the needs of our citizens, and
- 3. Develop community policing strategies
The men and women of the Mound Police Department are professionals who are well-trained, and committed to providing a safe and secure environment for those who live, work, and visit our community. We ask that you join us by becoming partners in our efforts to keep your neighborhoods safe. Being a partner might mean:
- 1 Participating in a neighborhood watch group or neighborhood improvement committee.
- 2 Volunteering at a neighborhood school or with a youth organization.
- 3 Staying informed and getting involved in community issues that matter to you.
- 4 Being an observant, caring, and considerate neighbor.
- 5 Volunteering with the police department.
