Operations
- 1 (in regard to nuisance violations) Resident has been given several citations but nothing ever changes. How is it possible he gets by with this behavior? Are some people exempt from the city ordinances? (in regard to police officers manners) Wouldn’t it be possible to have police officers walk a beat while in our new commercial district and other city locations for m ore visibility? Nothing better than good P.R.
- 2 Patrol! Sunnybrook farms more, many speeders.
- 3 I have contacted the C.S.O. officer a few times about junk in my neighbor’s yard.
- 4 Keep patrolling on the island.
- 5 I have observed a lot of cross walk violations on Commerce in front of Wells Fargo/ Jubilee. I will drive my car between the two. It is too dangerous to cross the street. Also they are speeding in the same area.
- 6 More visibility.
- 7 Concentrate on significant crime rather than minor transgressions. Example: during construction on 110 I was pulled over and questioned about who was first at a four way stop.
- 8 The drug use by minors seems to be a growing problem. With two sons in middle school I would like to see this problem addressed more actively.
- 9 Teen kids’ curfews enforced.
- 10 Enforce pedestrian cross-walk safety.
- 11 Are the Mound Police aware of the drugs in the area?
- 12 Don’t sit on the Black Lake Bridge with radar.
- 13 What is it with the new stop sign at Al and Almas?
- 14 When I called they didn’t bother to come. I talked to the chief of police. Road restrictions hauling rock late at night and on Sundays. Neighbor called about kids running in the neighborhood 3:00 a.m, no one came out.
- 15 Make monthly or bi-monthly visits to area retailers, answer any questions or concerns.
- 16 Being down town for traffic at the end of the day. Be more visible in the business area. Police chief should visit down town area more often.
- 17 Crime watch- evening- more crime.
- 18 Monitor pedestrian walks more closely.
- 19 Be aware of the kids at the new city Mound. (Jubilee)
- 20 More enforcement at exterior storage of junk vehicles. You guys and gals are great.
- 21 Called previous with no/ late response, tried waving at them and was largely ignored.
Opinions
- 1 I am impressed with the quality of our police department and the leadership of our police chief.
- 2 I am confident and appreciate our Mound Police Department.
- 3 Stop using there power as policemen for their own benefit. They needed to use their powers to capture the real felons in Mound rather than make the juveniles life a living hell in Mound.
- 4 I have no reason to criticize the Police Department – I know problems are huge with the community in general, thanks for your hard work!
- 5 I don’t know how I feel they do the best they can. Prayer is good.
- 6 Police abuse their power in Mound.
- 7 I believe the police department is doing a good job. Keep it up.
- 8 From what I have seen and observed in living and being in the mound area for over 15 years we have a very good police department. Although there have been some events, happenings in Mound over the past couple of months, I feel very safe in Mound.
- 9 I encountered a new police officer to misjudge something and gave me a ticket when I shouldn’t have been given one. Fortunately he was honest enough to tell the sheriff of his mistake and I got the ticket torn up.
- 10 Less attitude from police would be beneficial. Officers are giving tickets to people for driving 40mph in a 30mph zone. This is ridiculous. If someone is driving safely and courteously they should not receive citations as a result of officer’s attitudes or anger.
- 11 They could be less crocked.
- 12 Be nicer.
- 13 I have had interaction with the police department all good with the exception of one officer. I feel like he has an attitude that he is better than everyone else. I feel he doesn’t take some situations seriously.
- 14 Excellent job!
- 15 Police think that they are better than everyone else not very friendly but I feel safe, so good job.
- 16 I called the police thinking there was someone outside my window one night and their response was excellent. Someone came out right away and checked the area.
- 17 Cocaine is a problem at MWHS. It needs to be stopped before it turns into meth or who knows what else is out there.
- 18 Rude and slow.
- 19 Get the job done with substantially reduced police department. My observation over the 5 years we have lived in Mound is they have little to so other than sit in their cars along 15 or 110 and wait for something to happen. My wife and I joke when we come home as to whether we will see 2 or 3 squads parked along 15 or 110 sitting with their lights off.
- 20 Mound Police Officers are rude and mean. They instigate innocent people and make them feel bad. Furthermore, I hate them. They’re bad police officers and Orono is nicer.
- 21 Quit being little Hitlers we want our town back.
- 22 More chances to catch those in drug connections.
- 23 Get rid of the cowboy mentality.
- 24 They could improve by being less assholes and actually care in what they are doing. They could actually put the criminals in jail instead of the innocent ones. The whole youth of Mound thinks that they are assholes and most parents agree with us. They are extremely crocked bastards. Lose some weight.
- 25 Great service!
- 26 Well, I think they just want to look good. They use their power as policemen in Mound as if they were god. They need to give underage kids a little more slack.
- 27 Stop picking on folks when they don’t know if they are responsible for what they are accused of. Pulling guns on innocent kids in parking lots. Handcuffing and searching with no apparent reason.
- 28 I don’t like police cars hidden – I feel the lights should be on at night.
- 29 Good job!
- 30 Keep up the great work.
- 31 I think they do a great job!
- 32 More patrol- you might have an exercise room, but maybe they should be paid to use it. I don’t see the police often, maybe their size is necessary to appear more assertive, but for their health some appear to “carry” extra weight.
- 33 Doing a good job thanks.
- 34 Stop picking on juveniles. I am out of high school now, yet still see the police pick on younger kids. Also, stop hanging out at SA all of the time! Why do you need four cops at the gas station? More attention and being polite is a plus.
- 35 They are wonderful, compassionate and caring.
- 36 Getting all new officers.
- 37 Stop pulling over Mexicans.
- 38 The traffic flow is terrible. Difficult to get from one business to another without going out of your way. To go to a business across the street sometimes requires 4 blocks of driving to get there. Can’t ingress bank from north on 110.
- 39 They do a very good job!
- 40 Stop high speed police cars going through down town for petty problems. Excessive police laying and waiting for speeders especially during school.
- 41 Don’t have much to base it on. Nothing jumps out at me.
- 42 Sometimes they seem to be driving too fast through residential areas and the county road going west.
- 43 If the police department is to take care of our community – then we need to take care of them as well-wages, etc.
- 44 Doing a good job!
- 45 Seems to spend more time on traffic stops but that’s because that’s all I see.
- 46 All human not superior. Leave the Steins alone.
- 47 I hate Mound cops! They have no manners.
- 48 Too many cops patrolling the city.
- 49 Mound police are awesome and courteous and friendly and well aware of their surroundings.
- 50 Thanks for the survey.
- 51 Mound has a wonderful police department.
- 52 Give youth a chance for once.
- 53 Keep up the good work.
- 54 Very competent.
- 55 Doing a good job – have no complaints.
- 56 They’re mean.
- 57 Haven’t been here long enough to have an opinion on some questions, yet so far it seems nice.
- 58 Seems to be some issues with petty theft and vandalism, but you guys and gals are doing great.
- 59 Doing a great job.
- 60 The system should be change so police officers could punish the drug dealers in our community.
- 61 We are very proud of our police department. Thank you to the officer for the cross -walk at Grandview. We appreciate them.
- 62 Friendlier manner. Willing to listen and not present lies to people. Follow up on requests by citizens.
- 63 Good job.
- 64 I think the Mound Police go out of their way to harass and intimidate teenagers, and are creating a generation of people that hate and disrespect authority. I have had situations where the police should have helped (vehicle was stolen) and they did almost nothing, and didn’t follow up on leads to arrest or prosecute the offender. I am extremely unhappy with the Mound Police.
- 65 I have had police be very rude when pulled over for a questionable turn.
- 66 Very impressed with responsiveness to the strangler.
- 67 I have owned and rented property in Mound since 1983 and I think Mound is a nice city. But I have a lot of problems with my last two tenants.
Suggestions
- 1 Having an article in the “Laker” once in a while. What changes in traffic, streets, and other laws?
- 2 Give yourself a brighter image to the juvenile Mound dwellers, in order to be perceived as respectable which the police are.
- 3 Work with kids more.
- 4 More speed limit control on side streets. Don’t spend so much time trying to pick up speeders on 110. Children are more on side streets.
- 5 Be around more.
- 6 Need to pay more attention to actual crime than writing tickets.
- 7 Don’t focus too much attention on traffic violations.
- 8 Concentrate more on crime and less on traffic.
- 9 Jubilee parking lot, teenager’s hangout, drug-use / drinking/ loitering.
- 10 Why doesn’t Mound Police publish “blotter info” in the “Laker”
- 11 Focus on getting drugs out of the hands of high-school people versus pulling everyone over for no apparent reason.
- 12 Should be patrolling instead of sitting parked. Driving through neighborhoods.
- 13 More patrolling neighborhoods- watch for speeding in small neighborhoods- crack down on drugs/ especially high school.
- 14 Hire more officers.
- 15 They need to be involved with businesses. Need to be friendlier.
- 16 Keep in contact with ordinary people, be friendly.
- 17 Lower the speed limit on highland road or have a study done so it can be lowered.
- 18 Quit harassing long time residents of Mound with nuisance tickets and spend more time and money on fighting drugs and real criminals.
- 19 Training its officers to be more courteous to citizens.
- 20 Not to be so enforceful of the speed limits.
- 21 Crosswalks- lines in for cross walks. Time on walk lights is too short- handicap can’t get through – police officer is the only time people obey crosswalks- start respecting peds.
- 22 They need to help people when needed and stop being rude when kids ask a question.
- 23 Be more visible rather than hiding behind bushes trying to get speeders.
- 24 Do not let the gangs get a foothold in Mound.
- 25 General clean up/ junk in yard.
- 26 Spend time with teens to try to direct them away from drugs especially at Sarbo Park and in the woods near by.
- 27 Fight racism.
- 28 Community review board.
- 29 Faster response times.
- 30 Be more visible to the community
- 31 Police service is probably quite reasonable in general but the community service officers need to extend themselves and come down on those that let their property
- go to despair. Also do something about people blowing their grass clippings into the streets.
- 32 Deal with the drug problem and don’t turn the other cheek, in general, and I feel safe but don’t want my kids to be exposed to drugs.
- 33 Be less strict on teenagers – not just stop them to harass but stop middle age more with traffic violations.
- 34 No crime reports from Mound in the newspapers.
- 35 We need a pedestrian crosswalk in front of Cooks Bay Beach (surfside). People (police and ambulance) fly down the curve on 110 – you never know who’s going to be walking across the street.
- 36 Cross walk further down commerce like in front of Langdon apartments.
- 37 Consistent with the enforcement policies and procedures.
- 38 Treat people with respect.
- 39 New officers should be introduced to the business community.
- 40 I believe they should use ex-addicts and alcoholics to teach D.A.R.E instead of police officers. You would have a better chance of getting through to them. Stop it before it starts.
- 41 Be less aggressive on teens.
- 42 Get the police to say Hi and wave back at people and talk with them.
Community Relations
- 1 Get out of cars in the business district and meet and talk with people, watch where they park (liquor store) so they are obeying traffic laws- visit with kids in neighborhoods and play grounds- be our friend. Not stand-offish.
- 2 More interaction with children on a positive level.
- 3 Continue community policing and be involved with local businesses. I think the police are doing a great job and hope this will continue so businesses and police have a good working relationship.
- 4 Follow up- P.R. is important, thanks guys.
- 5 More friendly with stops at businesses/parks etc.
- 6 More visibility on foot patrols, etc. More good well contacts with business people.
